This output is based upon work from COST Action K-Peritia CA 22101, supported by COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) www.cost.eu

COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a funding agency for research and innovation networks. Our Actions help connect research initiatives across Europe and enable scientists to grow their ideas by sharing them with their peers. This boosts their research, career and innovation.

Cultural expertise is an emergent concept in the social sciences to indicate the special knowledge deployed by experts of laws and cultures for assisting decision-making authorities in conflict resolution with information on the socio-legal backgrounds of facts and persons involved.

CULTEXP is a “stripped back” demonstrator for the first multilingual and cross-jurisdictional socio-legal database on cultural expertise. CULTEXP allows to search case law involving cultural expertise with or without cultural experts in Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

CULTEXP is an output of Cultural Expertise in Europe: What is it useful for? EURO-EXPERT, 681814 funded by the European Research Council. The Pakistan and Indonesia sections of CULTEXP are outputs of Gender Sensitisation for Judicial Education in Pakistan and Indonesia, funded by Great Challenges Research Funds.

We have designed CULTEXP, a demonstrator for the first multilingual and cross-jurisdictional socio-legal database on cultural expertise. We are currently testing CULTEXP’s architecture for further developing human-machine data-entry and translation.
